Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Gather All Your Supplies
First things first, I'll make sure I have all my supplies laid out. I've got my wooden planter box, drill, screws, wall anchors, wood stain, sandpaper, and of course, my plants and potting soil ready to go. Let's make this wall planter happen!
Step 2: Sand Down the Planter Box
Time to give my wooden planter box some love! I'll take some sandpaper and smooth down any rough edges. My goal is to make it nice and smooth to prevent splinters and help the stain stick better.
Step 3: Stain or Paint the Planter
Getting creative! I’ll grab my wood stain and brush, and apply a gorgeous finish to my planter box. I can’t wait to see how it transforms! If I want a pop of color, I might go for a vibrant paint instead. Let’s let it dry for a bit.
Step 4: Prepare the Wall for Mounting
While the paint is drying, I’ll choose the perfect spot on the wall for my planter. I want it to get enough sunlight! Using my measuring tape, I'll mark where the top of the planter will go.
Step 5: Drill and Install Wall Anchors
Now, it's time to get out the drill! I’ll drill holes into the wall where I made my marks and insert the wall anchors. This will ensure my planter box stays put when it's full of dirt and plants.
Step 6: Attach the Planter to the Wall
With the wall anchors in place, I can now screw in the planter box. Using my level, I’ll make sure it’s perfectly straight. It looks beautiful already!
Step 7: Add Pot Feet or Plant Tray
To keep my plants happy and dry, I’m placing pot feet or a plant tray at the bottom of the planter. This will help with drainage and keep excess water from sitting in the box.
Step 8: Fill with Potting Soil
Now for the fun part! I’m grabbing my potting soil and filling the planter box with it. I’ll pack it down a little but leave some space for the plants I’ll be adding.
Step 9: Plant My Herbs and Plants
With the soil in place, it’s time to plant! I’m choosing some petite herbs—maybe basil, thyme, and mint. I’ll arrange them nicely in the planter, and cover the roots with more soil.
Step 10: Water My New Plants
All planted! Now I’ll take my watering can and give my new plants a good drink. I want to make sure they settle in well and get some moisture.
Step 11: Step Back and Admire My Creation
All done! I’ll take a step back and admire my charming wall planter. It looks vibrant and inviting and will be a lovely addition to my wall!
