Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Gathering My Materials
First, I gather all my equipment on the kitchen table. I lay out the tealight candle molds, the soy or paraffin wax, fragrance oils, dye chips, and all the other tools. This is my play zone for the day!
Step 2: Preparing the Work Area
I spread some old newspaper on the table to protect it from wax spills. I also put on my protective gear - gloves and an apron - because things might get a little messy!
Step 3: Melting the Wax
Next, I prepare my double boiler. I fill it with water and put it on the stove to heat. While it's heating, I measure out the soy or paraffin wax I need, usually around 2 cups for my batch of tealights.
Step 4: Adding Color and Fragrance
Once the wax has melted to a clear liquid, I carefully check the temperature with my thermometer. Once it’s around 180°F, I add in my dye chips or liquid dye for that lovely color. I often go for a soft pastel for a calming effect in the kitchen.
Step 5: Mixing in Fragrance
With the wax at the right temperature, I now add fragrance oils. A few drops of lemon or vanilla essential oil can really uplift the kitchen's aura. I stir it gently with my stirring utensil to mix everything well.
Step 6: Setting the Wick
Now, I take my tealight molds and place a wick in the center of each one. I use a hot glue gun to secure the bottom of the wick to the mold base, ensuring it stays in place as I pour the wax.
Step 7: Pouring the Wax
It’s time for the fun part! I carefully pour the melted wax into each tealight mold, being careful not to disturb the wick. I fill each mold to the top for a nice round tealight.
Step 8: Cooling Down
After pouring, I let the tealights cool down at room temperature. I sometimes pass the time by cleaning up a bit, wiping down the table and washing my tools!
Step 9: Removing from Molds
Once the tealights are fully cooled and solidified, I gently pop them out of the molds. Watching them come out perfectly formed is so satisfying!
Step 10: Final Touches
I trim the wick to about 1/4 inch above the surface of the tealight. Then, I can admire my handiwork! These lovely tealights are now ready to illuminate my kitchen.
Step 11: Enjoying My Creations
Finally, I place them in a pretty tray on the kitchen counter. I light one up to enjoy the soothing glow and wonderful fragrance it brings. What a delightful way to enhance my kitchen ambiance!
