With summer just around the corner, I can’t help but feel that familiar itch to dive into my reading list — you know, that mix of excitement and bliss when you open a book and go somewhere new? But what’s worse than losing your place in a captivating story? I don’t know about you, but I’m always on the hunt for the perfect bookmark to not just hold my page, but to add a splash of creativity to my literary adventures. Have you ever had those moments where a simple piece of paper just doesn’t cut it? I remember last summer, I crafted a few bookmarks with cute little drawings and inspiring quotes that got me through some truly long reads. They brightened my days and made each book feel special. So, why not make it a fun project this year? Who’s in for a little DIY? It’s time to get crafty!
Items You’ll Need
- Cardstock or thick paper
- Scissors
- Glue or glue stick
- Markers or colored pens
- Stickers
- Ruler
- Hole punch
- Ribbon or string
- Decorative washi tape
- Printable templates (if desired)
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Gather My Supplies
First, I rummage through my craft stash and gather everything I need: cardstock, scissors, glue, markers, stickers, a ruler, a hole punch, some ribbon, decorative washi tape, and any printable templates I want to use. Having everything nearby makes the crafting process smooth and fun!
Step 2: Decide on the Size
Next, I decide what size I want my bookmarks to be. A standard size is about 2 inches by 6 inches, but I can make them any size I like. Using my ruler, I measure out the size on the cardstock and mark it with a pencil.
Step 3: Cut Out Bookmarks
With my scissors, I carefully cut along the marked lines to create the bookmarks. I make sure my cuts are straight and clean. It feels satisfying to see the neat rectangles take shape!
Step 4: Design the Bookmarks
Now the fun part begins! I grab my markers and colored pens and start decorating each bookmark. I try different colors and patterns, doodling fun summer themes like suns, waves, and books. I let my creativity flow!
Step 5: Add Stickers and Washi Tape
After I’ve colored them in, I pull out my stickers and washi tape. I find cute summer-themed stickers to add pops of color. I also use washi tape along the edges for a stylish look, making each bookmark unique!
Step 6: Punch a Hole
Once I’m happy with the designs, I take my hole punch and make a small hole at the top of each bookmark. This is where I’ll add some lovely ribbon or string to make it easier to find my bookmark in my book.
Step 7: Add Ribbon or String
I cut pieces of ribbon, maybe about 6 inches long, and thread them through the holes I punched. I tie them in cute bows, making the bookmarks extra special. The ribbons flutter as I move them around!
Step 8: Final Touches
Finally, I take a step back and admire my handiwork. I check each bookmark for any last-minute touches, maybe adding a bit more color here and there. I can’t wait to use them during my summer reading adventures!
Step 9: Show Off My Creation
I take some pictures to share my bookmarks with friends and family. It’s always nice to inspire others to get crafty too! Plus, it feels good to have personalized bookmarks ready for my summer reads.
