Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Gather Your Supplies
First things first! I gather all my equipment: Soy Wax, Wicks, Fragrance Oils, Color Dye, Double Boiler, Thermometer, Pouring Jug, Candle Molds or Containers, Adhesive Stickers, Stirring Utensil, Safety Gear, Scale, and Labels. Having everything ready makes the process so much more enjoyable!
Step 2: Prepare Your Workspace
Next, I set up my workspace. I clear off a table, lay down some old newspaper to protect the surface, and make sure I have my safety gear on. I can't forget my apron and gloves, as working with wax can get a little messy!
Step 3: Measure the Wax
Using my scale, I measure out the right amount of soy wax. For a standard candle in a container, I usually go with about 1 cup of wax. I add a little extra to account for any spillage. Measuring is key to ensuring I have enough!
Step 4: Melt the Wax
I fill the bottom pot of my double boiler with water and place it on the stove. I add the measured wax to the top pot and turn on the heat. I stir the wax occasionally to help it melt evenly — the delightful aroma of melting wax fills the room!
Step 5: Prepare the Wicks
While the wax is melting, I grab my wicks. I dip the metal base of each wick into the melted wax, then stick it to the bottom of my candle container. This will help keep the wick centered when I pour the wax.
Step 6: Add Color and Fragrance
Once the wax is fully melted (at about 180°F), I remove it from the heat. This is the fun part! I add a few drops of color dye and stir well until I achieve a lovely hue. Then, I add my chosen fragrance oils — the scent is truly personal, so I like to use a blend of my favorites!
Step 7: Pour the Wax
Once everything is well mixed and at around 160°F, I carefully pour the wax into my prepared containers. I try to pour slowly to avoid creating air bubbles. I also make sure to leave a little space at the top for a smooth finish!
Step 8: Attach Adhesive Stickers
After pouring the wax, I use adhesive stickers to hold the wicks in place while the candle cools. It's a little tricky, but I love seeing the wicks standing straight as the wax solidifies around them.
Step 9: Let it Cool
I let the candles cool completely. This can take a few hours. I take this time to clean up my workspace and think about what labels I want to create for my new scented candle creations.
Step 10: Trim the Wicks
Once the candles are completely cooled and solid, I carefully trim the wicks to about 1/4 inch above the wax surface. This is important for a good burn later on — I want to make sure my candles burn beautifully!
Step 11: Label and Personalize
Finally, I get to label my candles! I write fun names and descriptions for each scent on my labels. I love being creative with this part — it’s like giving each candle its own identity!
Step 12: Enjoy Your Creations
And there you have it! My personalized scented candle kit is complete. I can’t wait to light one of these beauties and fill my space with delightful aromas. Time to relax and enjoy the cozy ambiance!
