Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Gather Your Materials
First, I laid out all my equipment on the table: wooden dowels, cardboard sheets, non-toxic paint, glue, safety scissors, felt fabric, stickers, pompoms, large beads, string, baby-safe glue sticks, paintbrushes, a craft knife, sandpaper, protective gloves, clothespins, empty plastic bottles, nuts and bolts, and measuring tape. It's exciting to see everything ready!
Step 2: Choose a Toy Idea
I decided to make a fun balance game using the wooden dowels and some cardboard for a base. I imagined it will be fun for the kids to balance beads or pompoms on the dowels. Thinking about the end result made me eager to start!
Step 3: Cut the Cardboard Base
Using my craft knife, I carefully cut out a large rectangle from the cardboard sheet to serve as the base of the game. I made sure to wear my protective gloves while using the craft knife for safety.
Step 4: Sand the Edges
Next, I used the sandpaper to smooth out the edges of the cardboard. This way, I can prevent any sharp edges that might hurt the children. It’s also a good way to make the base look neat!
Step 5: Attach the Dowels
I took my wooden dowels and glued them vertically onto the cardboard base using wood glue. I placed them at varying distances to make the game more challenging. I used clothespins to hold them in place while the glue dried.
Step 6: Decorate the Base
While the dowels were drying, I grabbed my non-toxic paint and painted the cardboard base with bright colors. I thought vibrant colors would make it really appealing to kids! After painting, I let it dry.
Step 7: Add Fun Decorative Items
Now that everything was dry, I decorated the base with stickers and glued some felt fabric shapes around it, adding pompoms and beads for extra flair. The more colorful, the better!
Step 8: Prepare the Balancing Items
I created some fun balancing items using beads and pompoms. I made sure to use large beads for safety. I thought these would be perfect for kids to balance on the dowels!
Step 9: Final Touches
As a final touch, I set aside some string to create a small bag to hold the beads and pompoms. I used a large bead to secure the bag’s top. This way, everything is organized and ready for play!
Step 10: Play and Test
Finally, it was time to test my toy! I invited the kids to try balancing the beads and pompoms on the dowels. Their laughter and excitement made all the effort worth it! It was a success!
