Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Gather Your Equipment
I start by gathering all my equipment in one place: Piping Bags, Piping Tips, an Offset Spatula, a Turntable, a Cake Scraper, Cake Boards, Silicone Molds, Fondant Tools, Edible Glitter, Food Coloring Gel, Sprinkles and Decorations, Stencils, a Cake Lifter, a Dough Cutter, a Pastry Brush, and Cake Dummies.
Step 2: Plan My Cake Design
Next, I sit down with a sketchbook and plan out my cake design. I think about the colors I want to use and the theme, maybe a fun birthday cake or a chic wedding cake.
Step 3: Choose My Color Palette
I pick out several food coloring gels to create my desired color palette. I squeeze a bit of each color onto a palette to see how they look together.
Step 4: Select My Decorations
I choose some sprinkles, edible glitter, and stencils that fit my cake's theme. I lay them out so I can visualize how they will be incorporated into my design.
Step 5: Prepare My Cake Layers
If I haven't already, I bake my cake layers and let them cool on wire racks. Once cool, I use the Cake Leveler to ensure my layers are all even.
Step 6: Decorate with Fondant
I roll out some fondant using my fondant tools to create a smooth covering for my cake. I place it carefully over my first cake layer on the turntable.
Step 7: Add a Buttercream Layer
Using my Offset Spatula, I apply a generous layer of buttercream between the cake layers. I smooth it out neatly, ready for stacking.
Step 8: Stack the Cake Layers
I stack my cake layers on top of each other, using a Cake Board to stabilize each layer. Each layer gets its turn to be leveled and frosted.
Step 9: Smooth the Frosting
I use the Cake Scraper while the cake is on the turntable to smooth the frosting on the outside of my cake for a clean finish.
Step 10: Pipe Decorative Borders
I grab my piping bags and fill them with colored buttercream, attaching different piping tips for various designs. I pipe borders and decorations along the edges.
Step 11: Add Edible Glitter and Sprinkles
I sprinkle edible glitter and colorful sprinkles over my cake, focusing on the areas I want to highlight, adding some glamour and color.
Step 12: Create Additional Decorations
I use my silicone molds to create fun fondant decorations that can sit atop the cake or around it. I let them dry and set for the final touch.
Step 13: Use Stencils for Patterns
I place a stencil over my cake and dust it with powdered sugar or cocoa powder to create intricate patterns. This adds a professional flare!
Step 14: Finalize with a Cake Lifter
I gently use the Cake Lifter to move my decorated cake to the serving board, being careful not to disturb my decorations.
Step 15: Show Off My Creation
Finally, I step back and admire my decorated cake! I take lots of photos before cutting it, ready to enjoy the delicious creation I've designed.
