You know those rainy days where the kids are bouncing off the walls, and you just wish you could capture their attention for more than five minutes? Yeah, that’s me right now. I was thinking about making a felt board for kids’ activities—something colorful and fun that could keep their little hands busy and spark their creativity. I mean, who doesn’t love a good craft session that turns into a messy explosion of felt and imagination? Last summer, my niece and I spent an afternoon making creatures out of random pieces of fabric, and it was pure magic watching her eyes light up as she brought her little felt monsters to life. Isn’t it incredible how simple things can inspire such joyful play? Why shouldn't I recreate that experience at home? Plus, I can already picture the fun stories we can create together. Do you think a felt board could be our new favorite pastime?
Items You’ll Need
- Felt sheets (various colors)
- Felt board or board base (like a foam board or poster board)
- Scissors (to cut felt)
- Hot glue gun
- Hot glue sticks
- Markers or fabric pens (for decorating or labeling)
- Ruler (for straight edges)
- Craft knife (optional, for more precise cuts)
- Additional embellishments (like googly eyes, buttons, etc.)
- Storage container (for organizing pieces)
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Gather Your Materials
I start by gathering all my materials. I lay out the felt sheets of various colors, my foam board, scissors, hot glue gun, markers, ruler, craft knife, embellishments like googly eyes and buttons, and a storage container for organizing everything. This way, I have everything ready to go!
Step 2: Cut the Felt Board Base
Using my ruler and craft knife, I carefully cut the foam board to the desired size for my felt board. I make sure it's big enough to hold all the fun felt pieces but not too big to manage easily.
Step 3: Attach the Felt to the Board Base
Next, I take my felt sheets and cut them to match the size of the foam board. I use my hot glue gun to attach the pieces of felt to the foam board. I choose a nice colorful felt for the background—maybe a bright blue or green!
Step 4: Create Fun Felt Pieces
Now comes the fun part! I use the various colors of felt to cut out different shapes and figures—like animals, trees, or flowers. I let my imagination run wild! I even use markers to add fun details or to label each piece.
Step 5: Add Embellishments
To make my felt pieces even more interesting, I glue on additional embellishments like googly eyes on animals or buttons for flowers. This adds a nice three-dimensional aspect to my pieces and makes them come alive!
Step 6: Organize Your Pieces
With all my felt pieces created, I put them into my storage container. I sort them by theme or color so they’re easy to find when I want to use them. I like being organized—it makes playtime more fun!
Step 7: Display and Ready to Play!
Finally, I find a nice spot to display my felt board. I can’t wait to see the kids' faces when they play with it! The board is ready for endless imaginative activities, and I feel a sense of accomplishment for making it myself.
