Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Gather Your Ingredients
I start by collecting all my supplies. I lay out my wax, wicks, fragrance oils, dyes, and all the equipment. I feel like a mad scientist ready to craft something magical!
Step 2: Prepare the Double Boiler
I set up my double boiler by filling the bottom pot with water and placing it on the stove. This will help me melt the wax gently and avoid burning it. Safety first!
Step 3: Measure the Wax
Using my scale, I carefully weigh out the amount of wax I need. It’s exciting to think about the candles I’ll create with this measured amount!
Step 4: Melt the Wax
I add the wax to the top portion of the double boiler and turn on the heat. As it melts, I stir it occasionally with my stirring stick, watching it transform into a silky liquid.
Step 5: Add Fragrance and Dye
Once the wax is melted, I take it off the heat and add in my chosen fragrance oils. The scent fills the air, and it’s divine! If I want color, I add a few drops of dye now too.
Step 6: Prepare the Wicks
While the wax cools slightly, I prepare my wicks. I dip the bottom of each wick in melted wax to secure them to the bottom of my candle molds or jars. I’m feeling crafty now!
Step 7: Check the Temperature
I use my thermometer to monitor the wax temperature. I wait for it to cool to about 140-160°F (60-71°C). This is perfect for pouring!
Step 8: Pour the Wax
When the temperature is right, I carefully pour the scented wax into my molds or jars, taking care not to disturb the wicks. It’s satisfying to watch the wax fill the containers!
Step 9: Secure the Wicks
To keep the wicks centered while the wax cools, I use a pencil or wick holder across the top of the mold or jar. They look so cute already!
Step 10: Cool the Candles
I set the jars on my cooling rack (or just the counter) and let them cool completely. I can already imagine the soft glow they will give off!
Step 11: Trim the Wicks
Once the candles are cool, I carefully trim the wicks to about 1/4 inch. This ensures a nice, even burn. I feel like a candle-making expert!
Step 12: Test the Candles
Now for the moment of truth! I light one of my new candles and bask in the delightful scent filling my space. I can’t wait to share them with my friends!
Step 13: Enjoy and Share
I take a moment to enjoy my creation. Sharing these beautiful, fragrant candles with friends and family is the cherry on top!
