There’s something about summer evenings that just calls for a little friendly competition, don’t you think? I mean, who doesn’t love gathering around with friends, laughter echoing as we tumblingly toss something across the yard? Just last week, I was reminiscing about those carefree days spent playing cornhole at family barbecues, and I thought, why not create my own yard game? Wouldn’t it be amazing to design something that could become a new favorite tradition? Picture this: a colorful setup in my backyard, the thrill of a win celebrated with cheers and high-fives. I can almost taste the lemonade now! It just feels like the perfect way to soak up the sun and connect with loved ones, don’t you agree?
Items You’ll Need
- Wooden board (for cornhole game)
- Bean bags (for cornhole game)
- Weighted rings or hoops (for ring toss)
- Plastic cups (for cup stacking game)
- Soft balls (for yard bowling)
- PVC pipes and connectors (for making targets or gates)
- Markers or cones (for marking boundaries)
- Measuring tape (to measure distances for games)
- Chalk or spray paint (for marking lines on the ground)
- Portable outdoor table (for game setup)
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Gather Your Equipment
I started by collecting all the equipment I need for my yard games. I have a wooden board for cornhole, bean bags, weighted rings for ring toss, plastic cups for cup stacking, soft balls for yard bowling, PVC pipes for targets, markers for boundaries, measuring tape, chalk for marking lines, and a portable outdoor table for setup.
Step 2: Set Up the Cornhole Game
First, I set up the cornhole game. I placed the wooden board at a distance of about 20-30 feet from where I will throw the bean bags. I set the bean bags beside the board, ready for tossing!
Step 3: Create the Ring Toss Station
Next, I moved on to the ring toss. I took the weighted rings and set them up in a line, using some makeshift stands or just placing them on the ground. I made sure they're spaced out enough to be a bit of a challenge.
Step 4: Prepare the Cup Stacking Game
For the cup stacking game, I stacked the plastic cups in a pyramid shape on the portable table. I made sure they are stable but also challenging enough to be knocked down.
Step 5: Setup the Yard Bowling Game
Then, I set up the yard bowling game by placing a few soft balls at one end of the yard and creating pins with the plastic cups at the other end. I made sure the distance is fair but exciting!
Step 6: Construct Targets with PVC Pipes
Using PVC pipes and connectors, I built a couple of target gates for players to throw through. I set them up at varying distances to add difficulty and fun to the games.
Step 7: Mark Boundaries
After setting up the games, I used markers or cones to mark boundaries for each game area, ensuring everyone knows where to throw and what is in play. I also measured the distances using my measuring tape to keep it fair.
Step 8: Outline Game Lines
I grabbed some chalk and marked lines on the ground, indicating where players should stand for each game. This keeps the gameplay organized and easy to follow.
Step 9: Final Check
Finally, I did a walkthrough of all the stations to make sure everything is safe and in good condition. I adjusted anything that might fall over easily and ensured the games were ready for play.
Step 10: Invite Friends and Have Fun!
Once everything was set up, I called my friends over to join in on the fun! We started playing cornhole, tossing rings, stacking cups, bowling, and challenging each other at the PVC targets. It turned into a great day of outdoor fun!
