You ever just look out the window at a snowy day and think, "How pretty would it be to capture that scene in a little glass globe?" I've been dreaming about making colorful snow globe decorations that would brighten up my home, especially when winter feels a bit too gray. Remember that time I tried to shake off the winter blues with a DIY project? It ended up in globs of glitter everywhere—sticky joy! I can't help but wonder: what magical moments could I capture in those globes? Wouldn’t it be amazing to see a tiny winter wonderland every time I walk by? Let's dive into this crafty adventure!
Items You’ll Need
- Glass jars
- Glycerin
- Artificial snow or glitter
- Water
- Sealant glue
- Decorative figurines
- Ribbon (optional)
- Paint (optional)
- Paintbrushes (optional)
- Scissors
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Gather Your Materials
First, I gather all my equipment together: glass jars, glycerin, artificial snow (or glitter), water, sealant glue, decorative figurines, and any optional items like ribbons, paint, paintbrushes, and scissors. It’s exciting just to see all the colorful possibilities!
Step 2: Prepare the Base
I take my glass jar and make sure it’s clean and dry. This is going to be the base of my snow globe where all the magic happens!
Step 3: Paint the Inside (Optional)
If I want my globe to have a vibrant background, now's the time to use some paint. I carefully paint the inside of the lid or base of the jar with some fun colors. I let it dry completely.
Step 4: Add Decorative Figurines
I choose my favorite decorative figurine and position it at the bottom of the jar. This could be anything from a cute animal to seasonal decorations. I make sure it’s the star of my globe!
Step 5: Mix the Liquid
In a separate bowl, I mix about 1 part glycerin with 3 parts water. The glycerin will help slow down the fall of the snow or glitter, making it look magical as it drifts down.
Step 6: Fill the Jar
I carefully pour the glycerin and water mixture into the jar over the figurine, filling it enough so that the figurine is covered but I leave some space for the snow.
Step 7: Add Artificial Snow or Glitter
Now comes the fun part! I sprinkle in the artificial snow or glitter. I love to use a mix of both to create a shimmering effect!
Step 8: Seal Your Globe
Before sealing it all together, I make sure everything looks just right. Then I use the sealant glue to secure the lid onto the jar. I want to make sure no water leaks out!
Step 9: Optional Decorations
Now I can wrap a ribbon around the jar for a lovely finishing touch. I can also add a little tag if I’m giving it as a gift!
Step 10: Shake and Enjoy!
I flip my snow globe upside down and give it a shake! The snow swirls around my figurine, and I can’t wait to show it off. These colorful snow globe decorations are so much fun to create and make perfect gifts or decorations!
