Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Gather Your Supplies
First things first! I gather all my supplies: some colorful fabric, round magnets, scissors, fabric glue, a measuring tape, a pencil, and if I feel like jazzing it up, a few embellishments. Oh, and I might grab a small paintbrush for applying glue!
Step 2: Measure and Cut the Fabric
Using my measuring tape, I measure a square about 1 inch larger than the magnets. For my round magnets, I like to cut squares of fabric that are around 3 inches wide. I grab my scissors and carefully cut out the fabric!
Step 3: Apply Fabric Glue
Now it's time to get crafty! I lay my fabric piece face down on the cutting mat and place a generous amount of fabric glue in the center. Using my small paintbrush, I spread it evenly over the surface. I want to make sure there’s enough glue for the fabric to stick well to the magnet.
Step 4: Place the Magnet
I take a magnet and gently place it in the middle of the glue-covered fabric. Press it down lightly to ensure it adheres nicely. Careful to avoid any glue squishing out!
Step 5: Fold and Secure
Time to fold the fabric over the magnet! I pull the edges up and over the magnet, pleating them as I go to avoid any wrinkles. I add a bit more glue to the edges to secure them, making sure everything is snug and smooth.
Step 6: Trim the Excess Fabric
Once I have the fabric wrapped securely around my magnet, I grab my scissors and trim away any excess fabric from the back, leaving about half an inch. This ensures the magnet sits flat and looks neat!
Step 7: Add Embellishments (Optional)
If I'm feeling extra creative, I can add some embellishments! Perhaps a small button, a clip, or even some embroidery for some flair. I glue them on now and feel like a true artist.
Step 8: Let Them Dry
Now comes the hardest part: waiting! I lay my fabric-covered magnets on a flat surface and let them dry completely. Patience is a virtue!
Step 9: Display Your Magnets
Once they're dry, I can't wait to use them! I grab my fridge and pop them on. My DIY fabric-covered magnets are complete and they look fabulous. Every time I see them, I smile at my crafty creation!
