Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Gather My Materials
I start by collecting all my fabric scraps in vibrant colors and fun patterns. I grab my scissors, sewing machine, sewing thread, bias tape, pins, iron, ironing board, measuring tape, and my chalk marker. It's going to be a colorful project!
Step 2: Cutting the Fabric
Using my measuring tape, I decide on the size of the flags. I measure 8 inches by 6 inches for each triangle. I carefully cut several triangles from my fabric scraps, making sure they have a variety of colors and patterns to make it interesting.
Step 3: Preparing the Flags
Next, I take each triangle flag and fold down the top edge about half an inch to create a pocket for the bias tape. I press it with my iron to get a nice crease.
Step 4: Pinning the Flags
I lay out the triangles in the order I want them to appear on the bunting. I use pins to secure each flag to the bias tape, spacing them evenly. It’s getting exciting seeing it all come together!
Step 5: Sewing the Flags
Now, I take my sewing machine and carefully sew along the top of each flag, attaching it to the bias tape. I make sure to backstitch at the start and end for durability. The sound of the sewing machine is music to my ears!
Step 6: Finishing Touches
Once all the flags are sewn on, I take a step back and admire my work. I notice some edges might need a little trimming, so I whip out my scissors for a quick tidy-up.
Step 7: Ironing the Bunting
I grab my iron and give the entire length of bunting a gentle press to smooth out any creases and make it look crisp and beautiful. I love seeing it all come together!
Step 8: Display My Creation
Finally, I find the perfect spot to display my colorful fabric scrap bunting. It’s perfect for any occasion, whether it's a party, celebration, or just some cheerful decor at home. I can’t wait to show it off!
