Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Gather My Equipment
I start by gathering all my equipment and ingredients together on the kitchen counter. I take out the double boiler, measuring cups and spoons, mixing bowls, a whisk, soap molds, a silicone spatula, thermometer, essential oils, carrier oils like coconut oil and almond oil, Epsom salt, citric acid, baking soda, colorants like mica powder, labels, packaging, safety goggles, gloves, mixing sticks, pH test strips, and a drying rack. This is going to be fun!
Step 2: Prepare the Double Boiler
Next, I fill the bottom part of my double boiler with water and place it on the stove over medium heat. I’ll keep an eye on it to ensure it doesn’t boil too vigorously.
Step 3: Melt the Carrier Oils
While waiting for the water to heat, I measure out my carrier oils using the measuring cups. Today, I’m using coconut oil and almond oil. I add them into the top part of the double boiler and let them melt slowly. The aroma of the oils already makes me feel relaxed!
Step 4: Combine Dry Ingredients
While the oils are melting, I take a separate mixing bowl and mix together my dry ingredients. I measure out Epsom salt, citric acid, and baking soda, and combine them in the bowl. The mixture looks so fluffy and inviting!
Step 5: Add Colorants
I get creative now! I add in a little mica powder to my dry mixture for color. I stir it in with the whisk, watching the colors blend beautifully.
Step 6: Cool the Oils and Temperature Check
Once the carrier oils have melted fully, I remove them from the heat and let them cool slightly. Meanwhile, I check the temperature to make sure they are not too hot to add my essential oils.
Step 7: Mix Everything Together
Once the oils have cooled down a bit, I pour them into the dry mixture. Using my silicone spatula, I fold the wet and dry ingredients together slowly, ensuring everything is well combined. It’s starting to look like bath goodness!
Step 8: Add Essential Oils
Now comes the best part! I grab my essential oils and carefully measure out my favorites, like lavender and eucalyptus. I add them to the mixture and stir thoroughly. The scent is heavenly!
Step 9: Mold the Mixture
I spoon the mixture into my soap molds, pressing down gently to make sure they hold together well. I’m excited to see how they turn out!
Step 10: Let it Set
Now, I let my bath products set for a bit. I place them on the drying rack and allow them to air dry up to 24 hours, depending on the recipe.
Step 11: Unmold and Package
Once they are fully set and hard, I carefully remove them from the molds. I can’t wait to see how they look! I package them using labels and packaging, and finish them with a cute touch. They are ready for gifting or personal use!
Step 12: Enjoy My Creations
Finally, I get to enjoy my handmade bath products! I fill the bath with water and toss in a few of my creations. It’s time for relaxation!
