- Labels for bottling

- Spoon for mixing
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Gather Your Equipment
First things first, I gather all my equipment: glass bottles with airtight seals, measuring spoons, my trusty funnel, fresh herbs and spices, high-quality olive oil, and a sterilizing solution. I also grab some labels and my cheesecloth for straining!
Step 2: Sterilize Your Bottles
I take the glass bottles and give them a good sterilization. I pour diluted vinegar into them and let them sit for a few minutes, then rinse with hot water. Alternatively, I could just boil them to make sure they’re squeaky clean.
Step 3: Choose Your Flavor
Next, I decide what kind of flavored oil I want to make. Today, I’m in the mood for garlic and rosemary, so I gather some fresh garlic cloves and a sprig of rosemary from my garden.
Step 4: Prep the Ingredients
I peel the garlic and gently crush the cloves to release those flavorful oils. Then, I rinse the rosemary and shake it gently to dry it off. This is going to be delicious!
Step 5: Heating the Oil (Optional)
If I want to infuse the flavors quickly, I pour some olive oil into a pot and heat it on low. I add the garlic and rosemary to the pot and let it warm gently. I stir occasionally, being careful not to let it get too hot. This step releases all those amazing flavors!
Step 6: Combine and Fill
After about 10-15 minutes of gentle heating, I turn off the heat and let the oil cool. Then, using my funnel, I carefully pour the infused oil into my sterilized glass bottles. I make sure to include some garlic cloves and a sprig of rosemary in each bottle for that aesthetic touch!
Step 7: Seal and Label
Once the bottles are filled, I cap them up tightly. Then I grab my labels and write 'Garlic Rosemary Oil' on each one, which I stick on the bottles. It’s fun to label them; it feels like I’m a fancy chef!
Step 8: Let it Sit
I place my bottles in a cool, dark place and let them sit for at least a week. The longer I wait, the more flavorful my oils will become. Patience is key, but it’s going to be worth it!
Step 9: Enjoy Your Creation
After a week, I can’t wait any longer! I open a bottle and sniff the aromatic air. I taste a bit on a piece of bread, and it’s fantastic! Now I have my own homemade flavored oil to enjoy and share with friends. What a fun little project!
